A little bit about me: currently I’m a SAHM to our toddler daughter. I was born and raised in San Francisco. I think the greatest TV show will always be Seinfeld. I am a cat lady who dreams about one day owning a dog.
So what do I mean by motherhood of invention? It’s the idea that motherhood is an ongoing process and we’re all just making it up as we go along. There’s no right way to do it so we get to decide what kind of mothers we want to be. Every day is about learning and trying and trying again. Sometimes we fail. Sometimes we succeed. Most of the time it’s just about getting through the day.
Not only are we inventing ourselves as mothers, we’re reinventing ourselves now that we’re mothers. It’s about balancing our new roles as mothers with who we already are—wives, partners, friends, daughters, bosses, artists, athletes etc. etc.
So really, motherhood is the necessity of invention. How great is that?!
